Jurgen Klopp details "intense" lesson learned by Liverpool's Curtis Jones

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that youngster Curtis Jones learned an “intense” lesson after his mistake against West Brom.

Jones played a poor pass out during the 1-1 draw with Sam Allardyce’s relegation battling Baggies which ultimately led to them scoring from the resulting corner.

The 19-year-old was criticised by the likes of Jamie Carragher for being “sloppy”.

But Klopp insists that this will act as a learning experience for Jones, who he says has played a lot of football in recent weeks after being thrown in at the deep end.

"He played a pass a little bit too late and everyone is talking about it but 100% you learn from things like this," Klopp said.

"This is a very intense period for him and he's done outstandingly so far.

"I don't know what situation we would have been with all the injuries if he wouldn't have been there.

"I'm really happy about everything, football players make mistakes or wrong decisions - that can happen, especially when you get tired. That was for sure the case at West Brom.

"But against Newcastle again, top game and really good player. All good."

Jones has been included in every matchday squad for Liverpool this season, starting 13 times already this term.

This has led to questions about an England call-up, but Klopp is not sure he is quite ready for the big stage just yet.

“It is a question for Southgate. He has not been with the Under-21s for long,” the German added.

“It is not my decision but we are happy to have him and he has a chance to play in our team.

“In the future he will play for England I am sure. But this summer, I don’t know.”
