Jurgen Klopp delivers verdict on Newcastle United tactics and what he expects from Eddie Howe

Jurgen Klopp has delivered his verdict on Newcastle United ahead of the daunting fixture for the Magpies at Anfield.

And the ex-Borussia Dortmund chief admits he is expecting a different type of Newcastle team to the one that frequently turned up on Merseyside to park the bus.

Klopp is a fan of Eddie Howe and feels that the 4-0 defeat to Leicester City was a harsh result for the black and whites.

Klopp said: "They're a good team and have good players.

"And the Leicester game was not a 4-0, it was 4-0 but it didn't look like one.

"They had their chances, their possession and their moments.

"That is the team we expect and not the team that lost 4-0.

"Newcastle don't have endless time to get out of that situation and after us they face City and Man. United so it does not get much easier.

"We expect fighting and them giving absolutely everything.

"We must make sure we are ready for that fight.

"Thank God at this moment we play at home at Anfield and the people were brilliant against Aston Villa.

"It is the minimum performance we need again from the stands, from the first second we have to be there and make sure we get a result we want and not the other way round."

When asked what to expect from Newcastle this time around, Klopp said: "More possession, more shots on target, more shots in general.

"Obviously they are more offensive.

"That's it.

"I know Eddie and have done for a long time now as a colleague.

"And we played against Bournemouth quite frequently.

"You can see glimpses of the Bournemouth style.

"They have played 4-4-2 in the majority of the games, against us with Bournemouth they played a 4-5-1 so they might consider that.

"Eddie has had a few weeks there and of course you can see his influence."

When asked on how he was going to cope with the fixture at Anfield, Eddie Howe said: "We need to get our organisation to the very highest level, because if we don't Liverpool will find a hole in that.

"But I believe, the other way, we have players that can hurt them – certainly on transitions I think we are a real threat, so we'll have our gameplan and we'll go there ready to perform.

"Anfield on a night game will be a great atmosphere, a brilliant occasion, but we have to bring our A-game.

"We need every player to perform above their levels to have a chance of getting a positive result."
