Jurgen Klopp delighted with Liverpool winning ‘three dirty points’ at Wolves

Jurgen Klopp acknowledged that Liverpool had to grind out the victory at Wolves, but was delighted with his team’s defensive resolve.

The Reds had been in appalling form domestically, losing six of their previous seven Premier League games, but backed up their midweek Champions League win over RB Leipzig with a 1-0 success at Molineux on Monday night.

Klopp, who sent well-wishes to Rui Patricio after the “proper shock” for both teams following the goalkeeper’s collision which left him stretchered off, said the Reds’ only objective for the fixture was to emerge triumphant after recent setbacks.

“It’s all about the result! It was a big fight, we had three dirty points and I’m completely fine with that, it’s how you have to get back on track,” he told Sky Sports at full time.

“Defensively the whole game was really good.

“Apart from [one early chance] we defended really well, counter-attacked well. The goal we scored was beautiful and it was very important for us.”

Klopp paid particular tribute to his central defensive pair, Nat Phillips and Ozan Kabak, but noted that there were stand-out performances throughout the team - which was of particular importance ahead of what will now be a three-week break until the Reds’ next match.

“[Very good] again! A clean sheet. It’s hard for the team, we wanted to keep rhythm but it was intense. A lot of good news tonight but most important: the three points.

“You want to go into the break with the positive feeling and we have that now.”

Liverpool moved up to sixth in the table with the win, five points off Chelsea in fourth.
