Jurgen Klopp still believes Liverpool have the potential to fight for the title this season and has revealed decisions made by the club are done so to enable success in the long-term.
Last week the Reds boss insisted he wouldn’t "start crying" because Liverpool can't strengthen in this transfer window.
The German admitted earlier this month that he would have wanted to sign a centre-back were it not for the ongoing financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
It is now almost certain that Liverpool won't make any significant incomings before Monday's 11pm deadline.
And two goals from Mohamed Salah weren't enough as the Reds were dumped out of the FA Cup after a 3-2 fourth round defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.
The result means Klopp’s side have now won only one of their last seven games in all competitions.
"We are different [from last season]. Time changes, everything changes, new players in,” the German replied when asked if he had seen changes in his players from last season.
“People will say it's worse but it's not true, you cannot judge only for the short-term result.
“We make decisions for the long-term so the club will benefit. We'll give are absolute everything this season.

“It is not about winning titles it is about winning football games. It was always about. This defending and attacking football to defend the title is more something you say because you ask me.”
Before the German added: "This club and team have the potential to fight for the title, so we will try and see."
