Jurgen Klopp coy on Liverpool transfer response to Dejan Lovren departure

Jurgen Klopp remained tight-lipped when asked about the prospect of Liverpool entering the transfer market to replace Dejan Lovren this summer.

As reported on Friday, the Croatian is on the verge of a €12m (£11m) move to Russian champions Zenit St Petersburg that should go through once the Premier League season concludes.

Despite finding himself behind Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip in the pecking order, Lovren has made 15 appearances in all competitions this term.

However, Klopp was giving nothing away when asked who might pick up that workload next year.

He said: “As long as nothing is decided, we don’t speak about these things.

“If you don’t speak about the potential departure of a player, then we can’t speak about a potential replacement!

“If there is something to say, then we will. But not at the moment, nothing.”

Standard Sport understands that Brighton defender Ben White, who has impressed on loan at Leeds United this term, is highly rated by Liverpool’s recruitment team.

However, concerns regarding the premium placed typically upon English players could damage his chances of a move to Anfield.

Real Betis defender Aissa Mandi has recently been linked with the Reds and is entering the last year of his contract with the Spanish club.
