Jurgen Klopp confirms three Liverpool injury updates ahead of Man City

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Virgil van Dijk and skipper Jordan Henderson are available for Liverpool's Premier League showdown with Manchester City on Sunday.

But the Reds will once again be without Joel Matip to leave the manager facing a selection poser in central defence.

Van Dijk was absent from training on Thursday as the Reds ramped up their preparations for the top-of-the-table encounter.

The defender was instead back home in Holland, one of 26 guests received by King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima for a lunch for Dutch people in various sectors who were 'distinguished by a special achievement'.

Henderson, meanwhile, missed Tuesday's Champions League home win against Genk through illness.

“Virg was for other reasons not here but he is completely fine,” said Klopp on Friday.

“Jordan is completely fine. Joel is still out, like Shaq (Xherdan Shaqiri) and like Clyney (Nathaniel Clyne). That's it.”

With no timescale set for Matip's return from an ongoing knee complaint, Dejan Lovren has emerged as a regular partner to Van Dijk in defence.

However, Joe Gomez started against Genk at Anfield with Klopp now having to choose between the pair.

Fabinho will return to the midfield having been benched at Aston Villa last weekend to avoid the fifth booking of the Premier League season that would have ruled him out of Sunday's match.
