Jurgen Klopp confirms role injured Jordan Henderson will play in Liverpool lifting trophy

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Jordan Henderson will lift the Premier League trophy despite picking up an injury that rules him out for the rest of season.

The Reds skipper has enjoyed a hugely successful year and come in for regular individual praise.

But he limped off in Liverpool's 3-1 win over Brighton and a knee injury will now see him miss his side's remaining four games.

Klopp's side sealed the title over a fortnight ago and the German revealed that his skipper will be the man to hoist the trophy aloft.

He said: "The boys were happy with the result (at Brighton) but then the boys realised Hendo was hurt.

"No surgery needed is the good news. He will lift the trophy, he deserves to lift the trophy."

"We all felt for him. Awful moment. We knew immediately. Hendo is an animal he fights for everything.

"He deals well with pain but in this moment, he knew something had happened. It was a complete mood killer."

The 30-year-old has appeared in 30 of the club's 34 league games thus far, scoring.

Henderson himself has addressed fans of Twitter and said: "Of course it's not the way I'd have preferred to finish the season on a personal level.

"But it's been an incredible campaign for us so far as a team and as a club and I'll be doing everything I can to support the boys for the final games from the sidelines.

"I'm sure the lads will finish the season off on a high."

Liverpool's final four league games are against Burnley Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle
