Alexander-Arnold to return, winger ruled out - Latest Liverpool team news ahead of Spurs visit

Jurgen Klopp has delivered the latest Liverpool injury news ahead of Sunday afternoon's Premier League encounter against Tottenham Hotspur.

There were a couple of notable absentees from the Reds' starting line-up against Genk on Wednesday night.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was replaced by James Milner at right-back while Dejan Lovren was handed a rare start at centre-back alongside Virgil van Dijk in place of Joel Matip.

Those changes didn't harm the Champions League holders as they recorded a comfortable 4-1 win thanks in part to a brace from ex-Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Amid concerns that Alexander-Arnold and Matip could miss the clash against Spurs at Anfield, Klopp has revealed the latest injury news during his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon.

And it's mostly great news for Reds supporters.

Klopp has confirmed that Matip is fine as he was only rested in midweek, while Alexander-Arnold is expected to be OK after not travelling to Belgium.

"Trent is fine. Or looked fine, if there is no setback. He was ill – ill enough to not travel with us, which is not a good sign, but yesterday he had a clearing session and if it is as it was yesterday then he should be fine," Klopp said during his pre-match press conference.

"With Joel, we have to see. I didn’t see him yet. I don’t know 100 per cent."

In addition, Klopp has confirmed that Andrew Robertson is available despite the Scotland international being substituted against Genk after an hour.

"We just rested Robbo," Klopp added. "We thought 'that's enough for today, 60 minutes'.

"He could do it and did it. He is fine."

Although one player who won't be available against Spurs is Xherdan Shaqiri with a calf problem.

"I saw Shaq this morning and spoke to him. It will take a little bit of time still. Big muscles, unfortunately, it needs a little bit longer to heal," Klopp revealed.

"All the other long-term [injuries] are not available."
