Jurgen Klopp confirms James Milner will miss Liverpool's Premier League clash with Arsenal

Liverpool will be without midfielder James Milner for Wednesday evening's clash against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed.

The former Aston Villa and Manchester City star, who has played an instrumental role in the Reds' charge to the Premier League title this season, missed Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Burnley at Anfield on Saturday afternoon, which saw the Reds' remarkable run of home victories finally draw to a close.

There was hope that Milner, who can operate in either full-back position or central-midfield, would be fit for the clash at the Emirates Stadium but he has not been deemed fit enough to feature.

Reds chief Klopp is hopeful that the midfielder will be available for next week's tussle with Chelsea at Anfield, but tomorrow's trip to the capital will come too soon.

Klopp told our sister title, the Liverpool Echo: "My last info yesterday [Monday] is Millie [Milner] is in contention for Chelsea game. He didn't train yesterday.

"Apart from that, no new injuries on the list. We should have same squad like we had for Burnley game."

Though Milner's absence will rob Klopp of experience within his squad, he still has more than enough quality at his disposal to try and guide his side to a 31st league win of the campaign.

Tomorrow evening's match-up between the two sides will see Arsenal aiming to get the better of Liverpool for the first time since April 2015, meaning the Gunners are without a win over the Anfield side in their last 10 meetings.
