Joel Matip has been ruled out of Liverpool's Champions League clash with RB Salzburg at Anfield due to injury.
It has emerged that the defender picked up a knock as he played a major role in the Reds' hard-fought weekend win over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
Speaking earlier on Tuesday, Jurgen Klopp said: “Joel Matip obviously got a slight knock at Sheffield, we have to see how exactly it will be.”
But the German took a less optimistic tone at his press conference later in the day, insisting Matip would be unavailable for selection.
He said: "It is not a big one but it is big enough that he is not available tomorrow night. We don’t want to [take] any risks and we don't have to take any risks, that's why he will not be involved."
Pressed on whether the 28-year-old might return against Leicester on Saturday, Klopp added: "I don't know, we will see."
Xherdan Shaqiri will join Matip on the sidelines tomorrow, the Swiss still recovering from the calf injury he picked up in training last week.
Klopp said: "Shaq will not be ready for tomorrow but I don’t know exactly how it looks in the moment because he is still in the hands of the medical department."
Alisson Becker will also extend his wait for a return to first-team involvement, though the goalkeeper is getting closer to full fitness.
Predicted Liverpool XI: Adrian, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Henderson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mane, Salah, Firmino.
