Jurgen Klopp confirms 'good news' as Liverpool learn Africa Cup of Nations fate

Liverpool appear to have received a boost with players battling back from injury.

The Reds have had "good news" in the treatment room as a number of big-name stars battle back from injury.

It comes as the club learn whether key men Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane will have to fly out for the Africa Cup of Nations following reports the tournament was set to be cancelled.

And the latest news surrounding outgoing sporting director Michael Edwards may come as a worry to Liverpool fans after he was reportedly approached by Real Madrid.

Reds players Michael Edwards could target

Real Madrid are reportedly trying to convince departing Reds sporting director Michael Edwards to take up the same role at the Santiago Bernabeu.

It means the Spanish giants could soon have a little bit of insider knowledge about who the Reds may want to target in the future, and which of their players may be open to having their heads turned by a move.

After enjoying plenty of success with his signings at Anfield, Edwards may choose to bring some players with him to Spain.

Klopp's 'good news'

Jurgen Klopp has revealed the club have been boosted by some "good news" in the treatment room.

The Reds have struggled with a number of important players suffering injuries in recent weeks with the likes of Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones, Divock Origi and Roberto Firmino spending time on the sidelines in recent weeks.

But ahead of their Premier League encounter against Newcastle United at Anfield on Thursday, Klopp has confirmed a couple more players may be in contention to get on the pitch.

Africa Cup of Nations fate

Liverpool have learned whether or not they are likely to lose star players Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita next month during the Africa Cup of Nations.

Next month's tournament was reportedly in danger of being called off over worries about the Omicron Covid-19 variant.

But the Confederation of African Football held a meeting on Wednesday and are confident everything will be able to go ahead as planned.

The Reds had been hoping to keep hold of their African contingent for the important Premier League encounter with Chelsea on January 2, although this may still be possible if they are allowed to depart for the tournament late.

The players themselves will also have the right to choose not to go if they feel the risks are too great.
