Jurgen Klopp confident in Liverpool solution to Ozan Kabak injury problem

Jurgen Klopp would have no problem keeping faith with Rhys Williams at centre-back as the Liverpool boss grapples with yet another injury headache in defence.

Williams made only his third-ever Premier League start when deputising for Ozan Kabak alongside Nat Phillips in the 2-0 Premier League win over Southampton at Anfield on Saturday.

Kabak remains a major doubt for Thursday's visit to Manchester United, with fellow February signing Ben Davies - who has been out of training for more than a week - having also joined Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip on the sidelines.

Jordan Henderson, another possible centre-back option, is out for the season.

Williams endured a difficult afternoon in January when Liverpool lost 3-2 at Old Trafford in their FA Cup fourth round tie.

But Klopp believes the 20-year-old is in a "really good moment" as he contemplates his defensive line-up, with Fabinho another possibility.

Asked if he was confident in the pairing of Phillips and Williams, the Reds boss said: "Yes.

"We train from time to time, and you cannot just put the boy on the pitch if he's not in the shape for it at that moment. We have to find another solution.

"We don't line up a player, especially a young one, and hope that it will work out.

"When the boys show up in training and have momentum, then is a good moment for that.

"Rhys for example is now in a really good moment and that helps. Who we line up, we will see.

"What this season has taught us is don't fix the line-up too early in your mind as something could happen that we have to change it!"

Klopp is again expecting to be without midfield duo James Milner and Naby Keita, who missed out at the weekend.

And while Divock Origi and Caoimhin Kelleher have both returned to training after long-term absences, neither is likely to feature.
