Jurgen Klopp chases Paul Pogba as Donny van de Beek Liverpool con fails

Liverpool suffered another evening of frustration as they were beaten by League Cup semi-finalists Manchester United on Sunday.

Two goals from Mohamed Salah weren't enough as the Reds were dumped out of the FA Cup after a 3-2 fourth round defeat.

The result means Jurgen Klopp’s side have now won only one of their last seven games and still haven't reached the quarter-finals of the competition during his tenure.

But there was plenty that went unnoticed or under the radar during the 90 minutes at OId Trafford.

Klopp wanted Pogba

Paul Pogba had a decent game for United at the weekend, although quite whether that was enough to earn the man-of-the-match award is very much open to debate.

Nevertheless, Klopp was impressed sufficiently to seek out the Frenchman after the final whistle.

The Reds boss chased down the United midfielder and the pair were spotted sharing a joke as they continued their conversation while heading towards the tunnel.

Rumours they were debating the interesting decision-making of referee Craig Pawson have just been made up.

United tumble again

Of course, the officiating was no laughing matter for Liverpool given the contentious free-kick from which United scored their winner.

At least there wasn't a penalty for the home side - despite the best efforts of Donny van de Beek.

The lesser-spotted United midfielder tried to con a spot kick out of the officials when falling over near Alisson Becker, only for VAR Andre Marriner to quite rightly have none of it.

Having only signed in the summer, it's clear the Dutchman hasn't wasted any time in fitting in at Old Trafford.

Mane all smiles

It wasn't just during and after the game that strange events were occurring.

There was an incident during the warm-up when a ball evaded Sadio Mane and headed towards an Old Trafford steward.

Health and safety directives meant the official couldn't have anything to do with the ball, and instead politely intimated the Liverpool man would have to get it himself.

After a brief exchange of words, Mane burst out laughing. Maybe it was something about Craig Pawson.

Milner grins and bares it

They grown them tough in Yorkshire.

That could be seen in the form of James Milner, who finished his pre-match preparations at a deeply chilly Old Trafford as the only player wearing short sleeves.

There was further sartorial intrigue surrounding Rhys Williams, who was spotted during the warm-up wearing Joel Matip's training gear.

Alas, this wan't the afternoon to be having an identity crisis.
