Jurgen Klopp calls for Liverpool title asterisk as boss takes emphatic 'do it' stance

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has demanded an asterisk next to Liverpool 's title win this season.

The German's call comes as debate has raged over the issue in Scotland since the SPFL decided to call leagues on a points per game basis.

Rangers fans insist that Celtic's title should always be marked with an asterisk to note that all 38 games were not completed while Hoops counterparts insist this is unnecessary.

The Anfield boss has led his side to a 22-point lead in the table and they only need to win a further two games to clinch their first title in 30 years.

And Klopp reckons historical records should be marked to show that the trophy was lifted in a coronavirus disrupted season.

The Champions League winning boss feels the circumstances of the pandemic make this term the most difficult Championship win ever.

He said: "I had to google the word 'asterisk'. I only knew it from the comics."

"This is the most difficult year and season to become champions. One hundred per cent because whatever it is, it is an interrupted season. It has never happened before.

"Whoever will be champion at the end of the year, it will be historical because it will be a year we will never forget. Hopefully because it is the only year we ever have like this as human beings and as a society because I hope we find solutions for these kinds of problems in the future.

"It is historic now more than ever. Give us an asterisk. Yes. Do it. Because it is the most difficult season ever.

"I don't like talking about stuff that has not happened yet. What people outside make of it, I couldn't care less. It's just for us. But if it will happen and we do become champions, then we can tell them it was really difficult.

"We cannot do a lot of things that we usually can do, but in this specific case at least we can say this is really special. That's why we enjoy the little asterisk."
