Jurgen Klopp breaks Liverpool club record with draw at Everton

Liverpool took a further step towards the title despite their 0-0 draw with Everton on Sunday.

The Merseyside derby marked the return to Premier League action for both clubs as they played out a 0-0 draw, with the Reds frustrated by their rivals' deep block which limited them to few clear-cut chances.

It means Liverpool's title celebrations have been delayed, with Manchester City able to cut the points gap to 20 with a victory over Burnley on Monday night.

Despite dominating possession at Goodison Park it was Everton who enjoyed the best of the chances, with Tom Davies hitting the post late on after Alisson had smartly denied Dominic-Calvert Lewin's clever flick.

However, despite the lack of cutting edge without Mohamed Salah, who failed to appear from the bench, the draw with Everton marked an impressive statistic for Jurgen Klopp.

The Liverpool boss now holds a new club record for the longest unbeaten run against their nearest rivals.

Klopp hasn't lost any of his 11 meetings with Everton, which sees him surpass Bob Paisley's record of staying undefeated in his first 10 matches between 1974 to 1978.

It was a game that Jamie Carragher felt Everton deserved to win though, despite Liverpool's dominance in possession.

"I thought Everton deserved to win," Carragher told Sky Sports.

"You can talk about Liverpool having the possession but it's what you create and the chances that you make.

"Everton allowed Liverpool to have possession because they know they can't take them on in that kind of game, so they dropped off. I don't think it's a massive thing to say Liverpool dominated possession because it was easy to dominate possession."
