Jurgen Klopp bolsters Liverpool backroom staff with new appointment

Liverpool have added a new member of staff to their backroom department.

The Reds are currently in Singapore for the second leg of their pre-season tour of Southeast Asia. The first stop saw them take on Manchester United in Thailand, a friendly they lost 4-0.

And ahead of Friday's clash with Crystal Palace, and as Jurgen Klopp looks to get his squad ready for the new season, it appears the Liverpool boss has worked on making sure he has all the staff he wants at the club for the coming campaign.

As the Reds have appointed Frigyes Vanden Auweele as the club’s new head of osteopathy. The vastly-experienced Belgian has been brought to Anfield to support the club’s medical team with the prevention of injuries and the optimisation of performance.

This appointment has been confirmed on LMent's website, who Auweele worked for before moving to the Reds, which also adds he’s joined the Premier League giants on a two-year deal.

“Our colleague, Frigyes Vanden Auweele will be working at Anfield road from next season on. He signed a two-year contract with Liverpool FC as 'Head of Osteopathy',” their website reads.

“Frigyes already gained experience at the highest level with the world tour cycling team Trek-Segafredo. He was the regular osteopath here and was in charge during all the spring classics, but also during major tours such as the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France.

“He was also a medical staff member at OHL and VHL since 2006 and was partly responsible for the injury prevention and treatment of the players of the A-core and Under-23 teams.

“At LMent he was responsible for the guidance and treatment of various top athletes from different disciplines. As of July, he will start working at LFC. A nice compliment to his earlier work and also a huge challenge!”

Auweele’s arrival has also coincided with a promotion for Andreas Schlumberger, who has been given ‘enhanced responsibilities’ following his arrival from Schalke last year. He will now be working as Liverpool’s new head of recovery and performance.
