Jurgen Klopp blasts "not cool" FA as he fumes at way he found out about Liverpool ban

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp revealed he was unhappy with the way he found out he'd be serving a one-game touchline ban from the Football Association.

The Reds boss was forced to watch his side's 3-1 win over Southampton from the stands after he was hit with a suspension after an altercation with a linesman during last month's 1-0 home victory over reigning champions Manchester City.

Klopp was fined £30,000 by an independent regulatory commission for screaming directly in the face of the official during the emotional, fiercely-contested clash. The FA deemed that punishment insufficient and slapped the German with a one-game ban from his technical area, which came in the form of a home clash against the Saints on Saturday.

Thankfully for the Liverpool manager, his players managed to get the job done without having him in the hot seat. That's not to suggest Klopp was all smiles come full-time, he expressed his frustration with the FA during his post-match media duties.

"It's the first game I've watched from the stands," he explained. "It's not my favourite place."

He went on to discuss why he was annoyed, claiming: "It's not too cool we got the information yesterday. Friday afternoon, the training is already done. We had to organise it but it was fine. We got the messages across."

Klopp actually discussed how watching the game from a different position had its positives. "The perspective is better, you get a much better overview," he admitted.

"I saw what we did well and I saw what we didn't do well and still couldn't change it in the second half. We tried with changes but had Alisson to thank."

The Reds took the lead early courtesy of another Roberto Firmino goal, his seventh of the campaign.

Che Adams levelled things up just minutes later, but the scoreline was quickly back in Liverpool's favour when marquee summer signing Darwin Nunez restored the Reds' lead before the half-hour mark.

Just before half-time, the Uruguay international had his second of the afternoon to hand his side a two-goal cushion.

The brace marked Nunez's fourth and fifth league goals of the season, a solid return from 10 appearances that will go some way to silencing the former Benfica man's detractors.

Klopp addressed speculation that Liverpool will be out to strengthen their squad in January, adding: "We are always open to these things. If something is possible, we will do it. If the door opens up, we are open as well. It's not about wanting or not. We will see."
