Diogo Jota got off the mark for Liverpool on Monday night - and Jurgen Klopp appeared to confirm his role moving forwards after the game.
Jota was snapped up in a surprise £45million transfer from Wolves earlier this month as back-up to the Reds front-three.
The Portuguese playmaker has played across a range of positions in the past and it was not immediately clear where Klopp saw his future role.
There were some suggestions he could be used centrally to ease the burden on Roberto Firmino or slot in anywhere across the front-three.
And whilst Jota does offer that flexibility, Klopp seemed to confirm he views him as a direct alternative to Sadio Mane on the left side of attack.
Jota came on in that role against the Gunners and made an impact with Klopp confirming he asked him to closely watch Mane beforehand in order to play his role.
The Reds boss said: "Diogo came on, played his natural football, tried to defend the way we defend and he's only on about 20 per cent of information for what we do exactly.
"We had team meetings to talk about it, but it will take time.
"Today he had like 60 or 70 minutes time to watch how Sadio is doing it and he came on the pitch and played incredibly well.
"He scored a super goal, nice first game at Anfield. So he will never forget that and I will never forget it, so a cool start."
Jota, meanwhile, was delighted to get off the mark on his first Anfield outing.
“It means a lot,” Jota told Liverpoolfc.com after the game.
“When you arrive at a team that are world champions, you always try to adapt as quickly as possible.
"The way they received me is exceptional. I just thank them for the way they have received me. I think we can build up from here and do great things in the future.
“Obviously I could have done better, I had a couple of chances before. But I’m happy with this – getting my first goal in my first game [at Anfield].
“And I helped the team seal the result, that is the most important thing, that we got the three points.”
