Jurgen Klopp apologises for foul-mouthed rant at "s***" German translator

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has apologised to the "s***" translator he clashed with prior to Tuesday night's Champions League victory over Red Bull Salzburg.

Klopp blasted the interpreter in his pre-match press conference on Monday after taking exception to how his fellow German speaker translated Jordan Henderson's answer.

The manager is usually a relaxed figure but lost his cool after taking particular issue with the translator's claim that Liverpool skipper Henderson said his team would "go easy in this game".

But, following the hard-fought 2-0 win over the Austrian side on Tuesday which secured their spot in the last-16, the Reds chief was quick to say sorry for his "stupid" outburst".

"Before we start I'd like to apologise for yesterday," the Reds boss said post-match.

"I know that it was unfair and even more so as it happened in public.

"It was completely stupid. I didn't like the way my answer was translated, but the way I addressed it was stupid.

"I should have done better and I'm sorry."

Klopp, who made his apology in German, then shook the translator's hand before saying "now in English" and bursting into laughter.

The German was forced to backtrack after slamming the translator for misinterpretating Henderson's response.

On Monday, Klopp, speaking in German, said: "It's s*** when next to the translator sits a coach who speaks German.

"The question was if the Champions League title from the last year helps us because we have always delivered in situations like this.

"He [Henderson] doesn't talk about going easy in this game. We are aware of this challenge. He is speaking about all this normal stuff. You should really listen. Otherwise, I can do it by myself. It's not too difficult."

Switching to English, he then told the media: "I am in a competition mood already, I can tell you."
