Jurgen Klopp and Marcelo Bielsa in running for FIFA Mens' Coach of the Year

Jurgen Klopp and Marcelo Bielsa are among a five-man shortlist in the running for the 2020 FIFA Mens' Coach of the Year award.

Liverpool boss Klopp was an obvious contender for the award after ending the Merseyside club's 30-year wait for a Premier League title.

The manner of the Reds' triumph was particularly impressive, as they lost just once before being officially crowned champions.

Since then Liverpool have also extended their unbeaten home record in the Premier League to a club best 64 matches.

Bielsa is perhaps the surprise name on the list, though no less deserves his place after his work with Leeds.

The Argentine led Leeds back into the top-flight for the first time since 2004 after winning the Championship with his exciting brand of high-pressing, attacking football.

Both Klopp and Bielsa will have their work cut out to win the award however, given Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick is the hot favourite.

Bayern stormed to an illustrious treble last season under Flick's stewardship, winning the Bundesliga and DFB Cup before capping their campaign by landing the Champions League.

Klopp won the 2019 award after leading Liverpool back to the top of European football, but may have to surrender the prize to his compatriot this time round.

Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui could provide Flick with stern competition too, following his side's Europa League win, though they did subsequently lose out on the Super Cup to Flick's Bayern.

Zinedine Zidane makes up the list after Real Madrid reclaimed the La Liga title.

Shortlists for the best goalkeeper and player awards are highly populated by Liverpool and Bayern stars, including Thiago Alcantara, who completed a switch to Anfield in the summer.

But Barcelona's Lionel Messi is still the man to beat, having pipped Virgil van Dijk and arch nemesis Cristiano Ronaldo to last year's crown - all three of whom are among the 2020 nominees.

The awards are decided by public vote via the FIFA website, which closes at midnight on December 9, with the ceremony due to be held on the 17th.
