Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool targeted as major decisions ridiculed

The decision to reward both Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony has been questioned.

Liverpool, the Premier League and world champions, won the Team of the Year award while Klopp was named Coach of the Year at the event in Salford last weekend.

However, rugby union side Exeter Chiefs believe they should have won at least one of the awards having claimed the Premiership and the European Champions Cup.

And Exeter boss Rob Baxter has dismissed Liverpool's double and the value of the BBC awards.

“I think they would beat us at football," he said. "He is a better football manager than me.

“People involved in world sport or European sport, they don’t actually know anybody down here that well.

"We are not doing it down here so we can be on BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

“It is a different programme to what it used to be, but 15 or 20 years ago it was almost must-watch TV.”

Liverpool won the Premier League for the first time in 30 years in July and stood four points clear at the summit this season.

Nevertheless, Exeter player Olly Woodburn said: “It was interesting that Liverpool got a clean sweep.

"Personally, being biased, I would have liked a mention. Either we get the team award or the manager award."
