Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool handed potential massive injury boost ahead of Arsenal clash

Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp are facing somewhat of a goalkeeping crisis at the moment.

Alisson Becker sustained a calf injury in the 4-1 win over Norwich City on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season and his understudy Adrian picked up an ankle problem against Chelsea on Wednesday night.

That leaves the prospect of veteran goalkeeper Andy Longeran - signed on a short-term deal just last week - deputising against Southampton this afternoon.

It's hardly the ideal situation for the Merseyside giants.

Especially with a huge game on the horizon, not to mention the beginning of the Champions League group phase next month.

Following the Reds' trip to St Mary's they welcome Arsenal - who they battered 5-1 in the corresponding fixture last season - to Anfield in a mouth-watering clash between two of last season's top six next weekend.

But will the Merseyside outfit have their first-choice goalkeeper available?

When asked by a Liverpool supporter for an update on his injury status, the Brazil international delivered a rather positive response.

"Yes mate, getting better every day!" he said.

Whether this means Alisson will be back for next Saturday remains to be seen, although Klopp did reveal that he expects Alisson to be out of action for up to six weeks.

"[It’s] Not too cool," he told Liverpoolfc.com ahead of the UEFA Super Cup win over Chelsea in midweek. "It’s a calf injury which takes him obviously out for a while.

"I don’t want to make now [an] exact prognosis on when he will be back but it will not be Wednesday for sure, so now then we have to see.

"It takes a while, it takes a couple weeks for sure, and we have to see.

"I saw already like ‘six weeks’ and stuff like this, but Ali was not a lot injured in his career so I would like to wait a little bit to see how he develops in that process now, but he is not in for the next few weeks."

If that timescale is correct, it means that the goalkeeper will miss Liverpool's clash with Arsenal on August 24.
