Jurgen Klopp and Carlo Ancelotti agree on why Arsenal chief Edu should complete £40m transfer

Arsenal are interested in signing Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin to replace Alexandre Lacazette, according to recent reports.

The Sun have claimed that the Gunners are looking for a replacement for Lacazette, who is out of contract at the Emirates Stadium next summer, and Calvert-Lewin has emerged as a possibility.

The 24-year-old striker, who is valued at £40.5million on football database Transfermarkt, started the 2021/22 season in fantastic fashion - scoring three goals in as many games in the Premier League, but has been sidelined through injury since the middle of last month.

The England international has really kicked on over the past 18 months or so, with his improvement evident to see.

One man who spoke about Calvert-Lewin's progress is Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who waxed lyrical about all of the striker's attributes in an honest assessment just under a year ago.

Klopp said: "Calvert-Lewin, I really expected him to make big steps in the next few years and he did.

"He has everything you need in a top striker: size, mobility, speed, desire, technically really, really good, in the air, finishing with his head, both feet."

Another big fan of Calvert-Lewin is former Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti, who saw the best of the England striker during his time at Goodison Park, and admitted he was shocked by his consistency.

Ancelotti said: "He’s a fantastic striker. I didn’t expect this kind of consistency. He’s scoring every game. It’s so important for us. It’s a big surprise and I hope it will be another surprise at the end of the season.

"The important thing for him is consistency. He’s really improved in the box, the movement is outstanding."

Ancelotti, when speaking about Calvert-Lewin a few months later, praised the 'cold' nature of the centre-forward.

"Calvert-Lewin - and also Richarlison - did fantastic work for the team," Ancelotti said to Sky Sports in May after Everton's 1-0 win against West Ham United, where the striker scored the only goal of the game.

"I asked them to play vertical and to attack around the back. They did this a lot of times. The goal he scored today is a goal of a top striker.

"It's a goal where the striker prepares his movement and moves at the right time with a lot of speed and then he was cold in front of the goalkeeper.

"He hasn't scored a lot of goals like this. He's scored most of his goals from crosses or with one touch in the box. This is a goal of a top striker."
