Jurgen Klopp aiming to hijack Bayern Munich transfer plan to solve Liverpool crisis

Liverpool are plotting a move to sign RB Leipzig star Konrad Laimer as Jurgen Klopp tries to bolster his midfield options next summer.

The Reds have had their fair share of midfield issues so far this season, with Naby Keita and Arthur out with long-term injuries, while Jordan Henderson and Thiago have struggled with fitness issues. James Milner has been Liverpool's only ever-present in that position, but he isn't able to start every game, with the midfielder now 37.

Jude Bellingham was heavily linked with a move to the Reds in the summer transfer window but a deal was unable to be struck between Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund as the England international stayed at the German giants. With Liverpool at risk of missing out on the Champions League given their below-par start to the campaign, a move for Bellingham could prove to be tough if they don't qualify.

Now, according to Sky Germany, Liverpool are working on a move for Laimer as the Reds have plans for significant investment next year, especially in the midfield positions. The Austrian is out of contract in 2023 and it is understood he will not extend his deal, and is now interested in a move to the Premier League.

The 25-year-old is currently injured but hopes to return in January, with Bayern Munich also interested in the talented player. The Bavarians tried to sign Laimer in the summer but failed in a bid, while Ralf Rangnick previously wanted to bring in Laimer when he was the interim boss at Manchester United last season.

Having started his professional career at Red Bull Salzburg, Laimer spent some time out on loan at Liefering, before sealing a switch to RB Leipzig in 2017. He quickly cemented himself in the Leipzig side and Laimer has since made 167 appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals.

Laimer has been out of action since September after suffering an ankle ligament injury, and although he isn't expected to be back until the new year, Liverpool could come in for him in January if he makes a quicker recovering than anticipated. It is safe to say Laimer would be keen on a move to Anfield given his affiliation with the club.

In quotes carried by the Liverpool Echo, he said: "I'm generally a football fan. I generally like watching the Premier League. I've always been a Liverpool fan."

But he midfielder also seemed keen on staying in Germany, though, as he explained: "I don't think a club like [Bayern Munich] comes knocking every summer, it's one of the best in the world. When you're associated with clubs like this, there's a certain pride. But I'm more the guy who talks to people and needs a feeling that everything fits together."
