Jurgen Klopp agrees with Thomas Tuchel on what could be key to Chelsea’s title chances

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp agrees with Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel on the ‘crazy’ amount of football played over the Christmas period.

The two teams are currently vying for top spot in the Premier League ahead of a month that will see them each contest a number of games over an infamously gruelling festive fixture list.

Reds boss Klopp has never publicly never been a fan of the month, criticising the calendar on regular occasions in the past, something he repeated ahead of this weekend’s clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

Talking in a press conference, the German said: “December will always be crazy. Everything is fine until you reach Christmas. [December] 26/28 is still not right to play. We accept that, we play, it’s tradition but it’s really tough.

“January is not better and the more successful we are in cups, it’s the same. So it is a difficult two months ahead.”

Meanwhile, Thomas Tuchel is heading into his first December in charge of the Blues since taking the reins from Frank Lampard in January last year.

Whilst the Chelsea boss holds a similar opinion to that of his compatriot, he appears to be taking a far more optimistic viewpoint as the Blues attempt to gather some real momentum in the race for the Premier League crown.

Talking in November, he said: “They are crazy here in the Premier League, while I was sitting on some beach enjoying the sun or a BBQ [over previous Christmases].

“But I also felt the excitement.”

The German continued: “Boxing Day is special and now we are in the middle of it.

“It will feel like at some point it will be exhausting, demanding, it will not always be good weather, but it’s the excitement of the Premier League.

“It’s a big part of the excitement. So I’m now in the middle of it. You need to ask me at the end of January how I’m feeling.”

Of course, the forthcoming period could well be key to both Liverpool and Chelsea’s title chances. The Blues are set to navigate a further six Premier League fixtures throughout the month, as well as also having to consider clashes against both Zenit St Petersburg and Brentford in the Champions League and Carabao Cup respectively.
