These are exciting times to be a Chelsea fan.
The Blues are in pole position to secure a Champions League spot for next season, they have booked themselves a spot in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, which will see them face Manchester United at Wembley next month, and they are making some incredible noises in the transfer market.
To say that Chelsea are a club on an upward trajectory would be an understatement to say the very least.
After securing the signing of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax back in February, Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard, who watched his side edge past Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Sunday afternoon, winning 1-0 thanks to a second half strike from Ross Barkley, wasted little time in identifying his next target.
And the man in question was RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner, who the Blues sealed the signature of almost a fortnight ago after triggering the release clause in his Leipzig contract.
His arrival at Stamford Bridge ahead of next season has most certainly got Blues fans excited, as the 24-year-old is considered as one of the most highly-rated strikers in European football.
And it appears as though Werner's arrival in West London has gripped the attention of former Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo as well, with the Italian, who guided the Blues to the UEFA Champions League title back in 2012, expecting big things of the Germany international.
“I’m a big fan of his and he’s developed really, really well as well," admitted Di Matteo in an interview with Chelsea's official club website.
"He’s a goal scorer, he scores goals, so he can guarantee a certain amount of goals for the team, which is very good, and he’s very pacey as well, he’s fast.”
Di Matteo's verdict on Werner, who netted 34 goals in all competitions for Leipzig this season, matches the opinion that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp holds about his fellow countryman, who was heavily linked with a move to Anfield before being snapped up by Chelsea.
Klopp is understood to be a big fan of Werner and was singing his praises earlier this month after news emerged that Chelsea had won the race for his signature.
Speaking in early-June, Klopp, who will no doubt still be celebrating his success of guiding Liverpool to the Premier League title this season, told Sky Germany: "There are a lot of good players on this planet. Timo Werner is a great player, Kai Havertz is a great player.
"Right time, opportunity - everything has to come together. Six, seven weeks ago, we didn't know if we could play again this year. If we hadn't played the second half of the season, we would have thought, 'Ok, when can you really play football again?' And now it starts right away.
"We act as if everything is already settled. It's not settled. We use this little loophole we've been left to play football again.
"Everything else we have to see the moment it happens. We can't pretend now that everything's going to be fine in the future."
