Jurgen Klopp had admitted that Thiago Alcantara has struggled to bed into the club, but disagreed with Gary Neville’s take that he is damaging their football.
Thiago is finally getting a run of games for Liverpool having struggled with injury for much of his first season at Anfield.
However, the Reds have coincidentally struggled for form since his return, though they seem to have turned that around now.
That being said, Liverpool delivered an underwhelming first half in the 3-1 win over West Ham on Sunday.
And Neville revealed his concerns about how Thiago is impacting their drive going forward.
He said on commentary for Sky Sports: ”I am thinking that Liverpool are silky but they have lost their punch a little bit."
Klopp has now opened up on the issues revolving Thiago and fitting him into his team, admitting that the situation is “far from perfect”.
But he insists that the Spaniard is still adapting to Liverpool’s style of play a new role from the one he held at Bayern Munich when he led them to Champions League glory last season.
“The situation is far from perfect, injured, ill, but not too important any more,” said Klopp.
“We and he had to learn how to play without changing everything.
“He was 6 at Bayern but we decided to adapt his position a bit. Worked out well. Stability, we can use his skills.”
Liverpool take on Brighton on Wednesday night, and following their win over Tottenham at the weekend, Klopp admits that he is wary of the threat Graham Potter’s side pose.
“It feels like a good moment for us but Brighton is too and we have to beat the team we face. That is what we try,” the Reds boss added.
“I respect what Graham is doing there. They have a clear idea, good players in the right positions. They stick to their idea and I respect that a lot.
“Against Spurs it was a deserved win. Controlled it. A football-playing side. I try to see them often."
