Jurgen Klopp admits Liverpool were 'lucky' after stalemate against Everton

Jurgen Klopp admits Liverpool were “lucky” against Everton FC after escaping with a goalless draw in the Merseyside derby.

The Reds were flat at Goodison Park and could have conceded a late winner for the Toffees.

Tom Davies hit the post after Alisson parried Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s effort, leaving both sides to settle for a point apiece.

And the Reds boss ha conceded his side were fortunate to not suffer defeat against their rivals.

“Most of the time we were dominant but they had the biggest chance,” Klopp admitted. “We were lucky in that moment but apart from that we were in control.

“It was a real fight. It was physical, intense, all in. I liked our defending. I thought it was good, we didn’t have enough chances for the possession we had.

“In the end Everton defended really well. They obviously tried to take care of Sadio and Trent. We were not smart enough to take the gap.”

While Virgil van Dijk was relieved the Reds moved a step closer to clinching the title – meaning they will wait for

“It was very intense. Both sides created small opportunities,” Van Dijk said.

“They had the biggest one [when Davies hit the post]. I think everyone is just happy to be back.

“We didn’t lose. We are one step closer to our goal as well.”
