Jurgen Klopp addresses Chelsea fans' "disgusting" racist abuse of Mohamed Salah

Jurgen Klopp has labelled the vile racist chant directed at Mo Salah by a group of Chelsea supporters as "disgusting" and insist those fans should never step foot inside a football stadium again.

The Liverpool boss has called for the sternest possible actions against those found guilty of racist abuse, after a group of Blues fans broadcast a video on social media in which they described the Egyptian, of Muslim faith, as 'a bomber'.

"It's disgusting. It's something that should not happen," declared Klopp on Friday.

"We shouldn't see it as a Chelsea or Liverpool thing. It's only a few people but the stronger the reaction from all of us, the more it will help avoid things like this in the future.

“It’s another example of something that should absolutely not happen. It’s another sign something is going wrong in the outside world.

“If you do something like that you should never enter a stadium again in your life.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opens up on 'painful' racist abuse

“All kinds of racism is the wrong and the biggest misunderstanding in the world out there. These people should not be involved in football.

“Football is the best example of how different races can work so well together. Nobody cares where you are from or who your parents were or whatever.

“These people should not be allowed to be part of the football community again.

“We have to show, with our strong voice, things like this should not be allowed to happen again.”

Liverpool issue strong statement condemning Chelsea fans' abuse of Mohamed Salah

A club statement said: "Chelsea FC finds all forms of discriminatory behaviour abhorrent and where there is clear evidence of Chelsea season ticket holders or members involved in such behaviour, we will take the strongest possible action against them.

"Such individuals are an embarrassment to the vast majority of Chelsea supporters who won’t tolerate them in their club."

Kick It Out, the anti-discrimination organisation, labelled the chant “a disgrace”.

"It's not on the terraces but it is still a disgrace.

"We do not want fans like that anywhere near our game.

"We will be liaising with Chelsea Football Club to ensure those involved are identified and punished swiftly and effectively.”
