Jurgen Klinsmann admits everybody is frightened of Harry Maguire ahead of England fixture

Jurgen Klinsmann concedes Harry Maguire is a feared character ahead of England's last 16 clash with Germany.

The two rivals will square off at Wembley in the Euro 2020 knockouts with the winner looking a good bet to make the final.

England have so far underwhelmed despite winning two of their three group games but the Germans themselves have been inconsistent.

They struggled to a draw with Hungary to ensure progression and will now come up against the Three Lions, who have recently welcomed back Maguire.

The centre-half missed the opening two games but was always destined to return having become a regular under Gareth Southgate.

He has been compared to former Inter Milan defender Lucio after Alan Shearer, in The Athletic, quizzed Jurgen Klinsmann on which players as feared by the Germans.

The German said: “You have Raheem Sterling, and you have Mason Mount. You have now Saka who played a good game against the Czech Republic.

"You have Phil Foden, who I really adore — I thought he had a brilliant year with Man City.

"You have Harry Maguire, who kind of frightens everybody when this guy rolls through midfield. He reminds me a bit of Lucio, the Brazilian centre-back — he looks like a Mustang running through everybody.

"And then you have this No 9 killer that hasn’t started the tournament yet.”

Will England beat Germany in the last 16? Have your say below

Maguire is one of several Southgate favourites who will be called upon now he's available.

Another of those is Mason Mount, although the Chelsea midfielder has been in self-isolation due to Covid fears.

Maguire though is confident that he will be fit and ready to return to the fold should he be called upon by the England boss.

He told ITV: “For sure he's a fit lad, I think he's been doing work from a distance and working away from the group.

"I'm sure he's been doing a lot of running as well because there's not much you can do when you're working away from the group.

"His fitness will be there so I'm sure he'll be available, well I hope he'll be available because he's a big part of the team, as is Ben as well.

"It's been disappointing for those, we had to make sure we had to beat Czech Republic to put a smile on their faces as I'm sure they were kicking every ball watching it on TV. It's disappointing, but like I say I'm sure they'll be available.”
