Things to listen to and watch tonight
Three things to listen to
Merchandise. Glasgow, Stereo. Former punks have been digging into their melodic side and found success.
John Grant with the Royal Northern Sinfonia, Birmingham Town Hall. Orchestrail reworkings of originally electronic compositions but the heart on sleeve performance remains consistent.
Kylouris White, London, Cargo. Experimental music with a Cretan flavour, no less.
Three things to watch
Get on Up: A relatively standard biopic raised up into something out of the ordinary by the performance of Chadwick Boseman as James Brown.
What We Do In The Shadows Jemaine ‘Flight of the Conchords’ Clement returns with a funny as you like mockumentary about the undead.
Posh People: Inside Tatler. BBC 2. Documentary on the magazine that faithfully reports the goings on amongst all the Jeremys and Tabithas that matter. But who would have guessed it would be so competitive?

Want to watch self-confident New Yorkers and a sweary Alec Baldwin make jokes about murder?
Well you’ve come to the right place, with the first episodes of Alec Baldwin’s Love Ride. Personally, I’ve seen better web content this afternoon.
New trailer for Far From the Madding Crowd
Mulligan, Schoenaerts, Vinterberg, Sheen. Quite a line up. Makes you think it might be Far from the Normal Bodice Ripper

Waka Flocka Flame's throat drop ads feel like an SNL thing, but they're not
Or like something from Too Many Cooks
Or a Funny or Die thing
Or just something people might watch on TV during 30 Rock
But Pine Brothers are real. You can buy their softish throat drops here.
Though, to be fair, even their website looks like a spoof
But look, here’s Martha Stewart shilling for them too. And she doesn’t do adverts. As she tells you very quickly.
Have Pine Brothers managed to stumble on a style of advertising that is both cheap and old-fashioned and stylish and post-modern? Am I losing my mind here?
Also can any body else match this for weird celebrity endorsement?

The Monday tune injection
Ariana Grande - Santa Tell Me
I can’t claim to have even the foggiest clue as to quite the hold this latest Disney teen graduate has on the imagination of children, but I do now a half-decent Mariah Xmas impersonation when I hear one and this is it. I mean, I’m not going to play it at work drinks or anything but her voice is caramel enough and there’s a little bit of swing underneath the sleigh bells.
Killer Mike - Sunday Morning massacres
With the consistent praise afforded his Run The Jewels project, rapper Killer Mike currently enjoys a critical reputation equalled only by the lovechild of Simon Schama and Beyonce. This mixtape he released this weekend should help to take the gloss off a little as its all bible influenced gangster talk which only sounds weirder when paired with the already rather dated beats that accompany it.
Curtis Harding - Surf
There appears to be something of a 60s southern soul singing revival going on (see also: Leon Bridges) and it all sounds pretty decent to me. This track is given extra garage rock sprinkles too which ain’t that bad a thing, unless you suddenly think of the Never Mind the Buzzcocks theme tune. Which I did. And it ruined the experience.

There’s three hours of Chris Morris radio on the BBC this weekend, here’a little trailer for it:
FIVE things we learned from TEN seconds of Jurassic World footage
In an entirely worthwhile piece of promotional activity there has been a video released showing you what to expect from a trailer that will be released later this week for a film that will be released next year.
Here are the key findings from this video.
1. The gate to Jurassic World has lights on it
2. The dinosaurs run too fast to grab a pic that isn’t blurry
3. Mr Garrison’s IT bike is real
4. The screens in Jurassic World HQ are blue and there’s a woman looking over her shoulder
5. Star Lord has a new waistcoast

Gwen Stefani has some new music, it’s produced by Pharrell.
It’s got a cool bounce to it and some of the silly tone of say Harajuku girls. It also has a lyric about having new glasses.
But it’s not really as good as this, is it.
But it’s difficult to repeat the success of things you did a decade ago. I mean, I tried eating a box of ritz crackers without taking a sip of water at the weekend. Didn’t get anywhere near the end.
