'Jurassic Park' actor sentenced to 6 years in prison for lewd act with 13-year-old girl

April 28--An actor and acting coach who appeared in "Jurassic Park" was sentenced Wednesday to six years in prison for sexually assaulting a then-13-year-old student.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Martin Herscovitz also ordered Cameron Thor, 56, to register as a sex offender.

Thor was convicted in August of one count of a lewd act upon a child. The crime occurred seven years ago, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office. Jurors also found true a special allegation of substantial sexual contact.

The victim took private acting classes at Thor's home in Agoura Hills, according to prosecutor Simone Shay. In March 2009, Thor drove the girl to the Santa Monica Mountains and sexually assaulted her, Shay said.

He was arrested in 2014 and eventually charged, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Thor portrayed Lewis Dodgson in 1993's "Jurassic Park" and also had roles in "A Few Good Men," "Hook" and "Curly Sue."

Thor more recently worked as an acting coach and ran his own studio, the Carter Thor Studio, with his partner.

They offered cold reading classes, comedy workshops and teen classes.
