Junior titles probe concludes but clubs won't discover findings till next week

Junior football chiefs are poised to publish the findings of an independent investigation into the controversial circumstances surrounding Auchinleck Talbot being named champions.

Ayrshire Football News can reveal the probe, headed up by UEFA match delegate Scott Struthers, concluded at the beginning of the week.

The report is now in the hands of the SJFA West Region management committee but Ayrshire Football News understands member clubs have yet to be informed.

Acting West Region President Alex McDowall confirmed today he had read the report's findings.

But he said the West Region management committee would read the entire report before issuing the findings to clubs, hopefully by the end of next week.

An investigation was launched last month after we published documents showing that officials backtracked on an agreement to null and void the season after an 11th hour intervention from Colin Chisholm, Auchinleck’s commercial director and the then Acting President of the West Region.

Instead league winners were announced using a points per game average to decide final standings.

That led to Auchinleck being crowned West Premier champions -  in turn earning a spot in next season’s senior Scottish Cup - despite sitting third when the campaign was brought to a halt by the coronavirus outbreak.

They were 12 points behind leaders Kilwinning Rangers with nine games in hand and had 14 of their scheduled 30 fixtures still to play. Kilwinning had five games remaining.

Mr Chisholm resigned from his West Region role on the back of our original story and acting president Alex McDowall announced an investigation would be held.
