Defeat Germany 4-2 to win title
Few years back, goals from penalty corners had dried up as the goalkeepers along with the defenders chalked up ideas to keep denying the dragflickers from scoring. That wasn't the case though at the Junior Hockey World Cup as 139 goals were scored from the penalty corners in the tournament.
And three of them were scored by Lautaro Domene on Sunday as he helped Argentina beat Germany 4-2 in the final at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Sunday. Argentina's other goal was scored by Franco Agostini in the dying moments of the match when Germany, after scoring two goals, desperately went all out in search of an equaliser and had taken out their goalkeeper and replaced him with a field player.
For Germany, Julius Hayner and Masi Pfandt scored the two goals but were denied on most of the other occasions by Argentina goalkeeper Nehuen Hernando, who had a brilliant match. It was Argentina's second win in the tournament after 2005 and they would be more than happy with the performance especially after the poor show by the senior team at the Olympics earlier this year.
As for Germany, it was only their second loss in the final of the tournament which they have won a record six times. They were unbeaten in the tournament so far and had come into the match as favourites but Argentina had other ideas on the day.
It was a dominating show from the South Americans and one can expect great things from this bunch of players in the coming years. Earlier, Domene put Argentina in the lead in the 10th minute. It was their first penalty corner of the match. He was on target again 10 minutes into the second quarter. Earlier, Domene put Argentina in the lead in the 10th minute.
