An Adelaide junior footballer is in a coma in hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest on the field during a match on Sunday.
Tyler Bennett, 17, was playing for the Tea Tree Gully District Football Club under 18s team when he had a cardiac arrest and was taken by ambulance to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, according to a post on the club's Facebook page.
The details were confirmed by Tree Gully president John Curley, who said the club would "just hope and pray everything's all right with them".
"He is currently in an induced coma due to having a cardiac arrest on the field," a Facebook post by his family said.
"He is under heavy sedation as he tried to come out of the coma [Gullies fighting spirit].
"He is currently resting. He has had a CT scan clearing him of any injury but now the waiting game happens for at least the next 24 [hours] before they start taking him of the drugs and finding out if their is any brain damage."
An SA Health spokeswoman confirmed the boy was in a critical condition at the RAH.
Tea Tree Gully was playing a home game against the Brighton Bombers.
Brighton president Kym Steer said "all of our club's thoughts are with Tyler and his family".
Brighton under 18s captain Gustav Martin wished the boy a "full and speedy recovery".
