Junior Firpo gives fitness update ahead of Leeds United's West Ham rematch following scare

Leeds United defender Junior Firpo has revealed he is fit for the Whites’ second trip in just a week to West Ham on Sunday.

Firpo had to be substituted midway through the second half after going down due to complaints over feeling dizzy.

The 25-year-old’s dizziness stemmed from an incident between himself and Illan Meslier in the first half, where both players had to receive treatment after colliding with one another when dealing with a high ball into the area.

However, despite the knock he suffered last week, Firpo has revealed that he is fit and available for part two of Leeds’ clash with the Hammers.

In an interview with BBC Radio Leeds, he said: “I’m good, I’m good. We’ve just followed the protocols about this type of thing (concussion). I’m fit and okay to play on Sunday.

“Yeah it happened in the [collision with Illan Meslier]. Minutes later I felt a little bit dizzy and in this condition you cannot play a game in this level because it’s difficult.”

After a difficult start to his career at Elland Road, Firpo has gone from strength to strength in recent weeks.

The summer signing from Barcelona put in a solid display at Chelsea, nullifying the threat of Reece James throughout the afternoon, before producing arguably his best performance in a white shirt against Burnley in Leeds’ last Premier League outing.

Firpo had to deal with a combination of Covid and injury issues during his first few months in West Yorkshire, but now appears to have come out of that with some much-improved displays.
