Barcelona have signed left-back Junior Firpo from Real Betis for €18 million plus €12m in add-ons, the Catalan club announced on Sunday.

An agreement was reached between the two clubs on Sunday for the Under-21 Spain defender, although the final amount is higher than the €25m Barca had originally been prepared to pay.

“FC Barcelona and Real Betis have reached an agreement for the transfer of Junior Firpo for an amount of 18 million euros plus 12 million euros in variables,” the Blaugrana said on their website.

“The player will sign a contract with the club for the next five seasons, until June 30, 2024, with a termination clause of 200 million euros.”

Firpo is already in Barcelona and will be presented to the fans at tonight’s Gamper Trophy game against Arsenal at Camp Nou.

The 22-year-old, who can play at left-back or as a winger, will then travel to the United States on Monday with the rest of his Barca team-mates for the friendlies against Napoli in Michigan and Miami.
