Moving to Leeds United is a risk in Junior Firpo’s eyes, but if risk-taking is his cup of tea he’s going to fit right in under Marcelo Bielsa.
Live by the sword, die by the sword, it’s the only choice to be made when you buy into the Bielsa project at Elland Road.
The former Barcelona left-back can expect to be asked to get into the opposition half as much as his own down that flank.
To do anything less than pursue a win at all costs, anything less than attack at every opportunity, is to sacrifice the gift of football to the paying public.
Firpo, speaking to LiveNow, admits taking the plunge on United, a mid-table Premier League outfit, is not without risk, but feels so right for him and his family.
“All the people know we had a lot of clubs interested in me, but when I talk with Victor he explained to me the project they wanted,” he said.
“In this moment I felt something with this club and saw many videos on YouTube, full stadium and I feel these fans will be really, really good for me and all the club.
“I take this decision to be here, maybe it can possibly be a bit of a risk, but I will take the risk. I want to be here and we will do a nice season.”
Firpo mentioned his wife with a knowing grin about how many clubs have been interested in him, how many options he has taken to her until, finally, Orta provided the epiphany he needed.
“At the moment when Victor explained to me the project I really feel something and you can ask my wife, there is so many teams, but I said, since day one, Victor speak with me and I feel this club will be really, really special for us.”
