Junior Eurovision Song Contest countries and songs as BBC airs event for first time ever

For the first time ever, BBC One are showing the Junior Eurovision Song Contest on Sunday, with the United Kingdom represented by Freya Skye.

In a huge turn up for the books, the UK came close to winning Eurovision back in May, with singer Sam Ryder topping the table after the jury votes, before being pipped to the post by the Ukraine when viewer votes were factored in. While Eurovision 2022 was held in Italy, the Junior version is being hosted by Armenia, after they won the contest in Paris last year.

There aren't quite as many countries competing in Junior Eurovision, with 16 taking part and all going straight through to the final rather than there being semis earlier in the week. This year's Junior Eurovision is the 20th to date with the show's hosts promising a "bigger and better event."

Like Eurovision, the winner will be decided by a mix of jury and public votes, but in a very different voting rule, people at home will be actually be able to vote for their own country online.
