A junior doctor has been praised for stepping out of the picket line during strike action to help a man that had collapsed in the street.
The junior doctor was part of thousands taking part in a 24-hour strike across England in a row over a new contract and weekend pay.
He had been part of a picket line in Southampton City Centre where when he rushed to help paramedics attending the man, who was lying on the floor, the MailOnline reports.
The doctor, who is understood to work at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, was seen by witnesses helping the man as he recovered on a bench.
A witness told the news site the doctor was stood at the back of a large group of protesters in the city centre, but broke away when he realised someone needed help.
“When an ambulance came around the corner, he quickly realised someone was in trouble and followed it up the street,” they said.
When he was sure the man was all right, the doctor left the man with the paramedics to re-join the picket.
After learning of the news, the Royal Bournemouth Hospital and Christchurch Hospitals tweeted: “#RBCHLove so proud our junior doctor stepped out of the picket line today to help a man collapsed on the street.”
