Junior clubs are run better than Celtic and Dermot Desmond owes fans an explanation over manager shambles - Hotline

There was no Celtic game at the weekend but Hoops fans are more concerned by the fact there’s still no manager in place at Parkhead.

It’s been eight weeks since Neil Lennon left and while Eddie Howe remains the man tipped to take charge, the punters are starting to get tetchy.

Lewis Doyle, Tipperary, said: “It beggars belief that a club the size of Celtic have still not put a manager in place. If Howe is interested he would have given them a start date and contracts could have been signed.

“We have recently seen what fan power can do, so my message to those who are running the club is to get off their backsides and appoint a manager.”

David Bryce, Troon, said: “Eight weeks have passed and still no manager, no players signed for next season and loads going out the door. Dermot Desmond owes the Celtic fans an explanation ASAP.

“If he thinks this is even nearly good enough he is hugely mistaken. There are junior clubs run better then Celtic.”

Celtic fans are looking to the European qualifiers but John Robertson, South Queensferry, said: “The only reason Celtic are in the the Champions League qualifiers are because of Rangers’ performances. Celtic have been rank rotten in Europe, ask Barcelona, PSG etc.”

And Alex Sweden, Tenerife, said: “Celtic fans are living in a time warp. They did well in Europe, but it was a lifetime ago. Up to date, Cluj and Sparta Prague spring to mind.”

Rangers have drawn a line under the Covid Five carry on after the SFA bounced their appeal.

But Lance Little, Erskine, said: “I cannot believe the arrogance of Gerrard. Can he really not understand that in the grip of a pandemic, five of his players just blatantly disregarded the rules putting their own families and the wider circle at risk?

“Even making the appeal was an embarrassment and clearly done in self interest.”

Rab Robers, Bo’ness, said: “What I take from Gerrard is only mediocre players should be punished.

“Sounds similar to the elitist rubbish we heard from the ESL.”

Speaking of the botched breakaway attempt, Record Sport columnist Chris Sutton put the boot in to the big wigs last week.

George Brown emailed: “Sutton has a nerve talking about UEFA greed. All the main leagues have been doing it for years, the SPL split from the rest of the leagues, the English Premiership in 1992 did the same, and now the SPFL are trying to do the same with Kelty Hearts and Brora Rangers. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.”

Frank McFerran, Carrickfergus, said: “Sutton’s column in Saturday’s Record Sport was excellent and very telling about what UEFA is actually all about. Their favouritism towards certain leagues is scandalous.”

Ian Ferguson, Knightswood, said: “I am in an extremely concerning situation. I find myself agreeing with Chris Sutton.”

Robert livingstone, Palm Beach, said: “A British league was hyped in the early sixties but of course it never happened and likely never will.

“The SFA would never sanction it, knowing what they’d have left would become totally irrelevant and of no interest to the huge majority of fans.”

The ESL is no more and at least we have the Euros to look forward to.

Well, some of us.

Douglas Cameron emailed: “Is anyone surprised that there will be no Scottish referees at the Euros?”

That’s a bit offside.
