Junior Cert students will have work 100% assessed by their teachers

Junior Cert students will have their work assessed 100% by their teachers.

The Junior Cert written exam is now officially dead and buried and all students will instead receive a standard certificate of completion.

This will list the subjects that were studied, but it will not include any grades.

This will be left up to the teachers who, as the education professionals, have been given total autonomy to award whatever grades they see fit.

It will then be recorded on a separate assessment sheet, granting total autonomy to the schools in this area.

May 29th is the new deadline that was announced for any extra assessment to be completed by if any schools feel the need to test kids some more.

Minister for Education, Joe McHugh, revealed the new Junior Cert format this afternoon.

He said: “In this difficult time for students I have listened to the very strongly-held and well-articulated views of students, parents and other stakeholders.

“This decision has been made with the health and wellbeing of students, parents and teachers at the forefront of our thinking.

“It gives students and their families more clarity and certainty.

“It also gives schools freedom to decide how best to assess the progress of students following three years of hard work and learning.”
