Juninho Bacuna to Rangers transfer timeline as Steven Gerrard 'hopeful' of rapid conclusion

Rangers are moving to wrap up a deal for Huddersfield midfielder Juninho Bacuna as quickly as possible, according to a report.

Steven Gerrard has been keen to add another midfielder to his squad for weeks despite the arrival of John Lundstram boosting his midfield ranks.

Ryan Jack remains injured while the game-time of Steven Davis and Scott Arfield is being managed carefully, leaving Gerrard light on options in the middle of the park.

He's been linked with a number of new signings to address that, ranging from Dutch playmaker Joey Veerman to Algerian sensation Zinedine Ferhat.

But reports emerged on Wednesday claiming it's Huddersfield's Bacuna - who was loosely linked earlier in the window - who is the frontrunner.

And the Sun are now claiming that talks have advanced so well over the 24-year-old that Rangers feel a deal could be rubber-stamped on Thursday, even before their Europa League clash with Alashkert.

Sporting director Ross Wilson has been the driving force behind the deal as he spent three years working at Huddersfield, where he still holds close ties.

Bacuna, a full international for Caribbean island Curacao, joined Huddersfield from Gronigen in 2018 when they were still in the Premier League.

He featured heavily in England's top flight and has gone on to make more than 100 appearances for the Terriers.

He had his best season Yorkshire last term as he registered five goals and four assists in 44 appearances, playing everywhere from right-back to attacking midfield.

But he hasn't played so far this season as he holds out for an exit before the transfer window closes.
