The proposed ending of Covid restrictions on June 21 could be delayed into July by Boris Johnson as variant concerns and cases rise, according to national reports.
It comes as concerns grow around the cases increasing of the mutant Indian strain after they spiked and the most cases of Covid since February were reported on Friday June 11.
New figures have shown case rates rise across the country and proposals for a pause on the final stage of the Covid-19 roadmap from June 21 to July 19 were reportedly being discussed in Downing Street.
Under the proposals, which could be announced on Monday, a two-week review would take place, meaning the remaining social distancing measures could be dropped on July 5 - the half way point, the Mirror has reported.
Nationally, 8,125 new people had a confirmed positive test result reported on Friday June 11.
It is the highest daily total since February 26, government statistics showed.
Between June 5 and June 11, 45,895 people had a confirmed positive test result. This shows an increase of 58.1% compared to the previous seven days.
A total of 173 people with coronavirus went into hospital on June 7 across the UK.
Between June 1 and June 7, 975 went into hospital with coronavirus. This shows an increase of 14.4% compared to the previous 7 days.
There were 1,058 patients in hospital with coronavirus on June 9.
There were 17 deaths within 28 days of a positive test for coronavirus reported on June 11 across the country.
Last week R was between 1 and 1.2 and this week is between 1.2 and 1.4.
