Jump in Bristol coronavirus cases as PM says follow rules or face another lockdown

A total of 36 new Covid cases were recorded across the Bristol region today (Wednesday, September 30) as the Prime Minster warned 'follow the rules or face another lockdown'.

Eleven more people have tested positive for the virus in Bristol, according to the latest government figures.

That brings our city's total to 1,847 since the start of the pandemic.

And for the second consecutive day, more than 7,000 people have been diagnosed with Covid in 24 hours. That's the first time it has happened since coronavirus first arrived England.

On the same day as this grim milestone, Boris Johnson said during a daily briefing we all needed to follow the guidance.

He said: "What we are not doing at the moment is going back to the situation we were in in March.

"We want to keep the economy moving. We want to keep young people, pupils in education.

"But the only way we can do that is if we all follow the guidance and depress the virus."
