When Julius the Zebra is caught in a deep pit-trap along with a lion and warthog and put into the Roman circus ring, he fought like a true Gladiator and did not give his opponent a single chance to murder him. The Emperor gave him and his animal comrades a chance to be trained as warriors.
My favourite character is the warthog because he is always citing uninteresting facts, even at the very worst of times. I found this both funny and annoying and he reminded me of my brother.
This is a story of friendship and jokes. I recommend it to children who are interested in history and have a good sense of humour. I will be looking out for more books by Gary Northfield!
