PHILADELPHIA _ Famed former 76er Julius Erving has been released from the hospital after falling ill during the Sixers win over the Pistons Friday night at the Wells Fargo Center.
Erving's management team released a statement Saturday afternoon with an update that thanked friends and fans for their support.
"Mr. Erving has been released from the hospital after a comprehensive medical evaluation. He's expected to make a full recovery," the statement read.
Erving, 67, who was honored Friday on the 35th anniversary of his famous cradle dunk against the Lakers, rang the Sixers' ceremonial Liberty Bell prior to the Sixers' rout of the Pistons.
It wasn't until after halftime that Erving fell ill before being taken to a local hospital.
Erving won the NBA's most valuable player award in 1981 as a member of the Sixers and led the team to its third championship, in 1983.
Erving held career averages of 24 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists through a 16-year career in the ABA and NBA.
