Julio Jones dominated on third down in 2018

You don’t need to look at numbers to know that Julio Jones is the best receiver in football – just use your eyes. In case you were wondering though, Jones dominated again statistically in 2018, leading the league with 1,677 receiving yards and finishing fourth in receptions with 113.

Pro Football Focus pointed out yet another area in which Julio separated himself from the competition in 2018: third-down production. Jones caught the most third-down passes and led all wide receivers in combined first downs gained and touchdowns last season.

The only stat Jones didn’t completely dominate in 2018 was touchdowns, finishing with eight. Meanwhile, rookie receiver Calvin Ridley led the team with 10 touchdowns. However, a lot of that is out of Jones’ control. When he gets opportunities he’s as productive as anybody in football.

Jones is now 30 years old, but he’s been the top receiver in the league at least since Calvin Johnson retired and shows no signs of slowing down.
