Julio Jones confirms his agent is in town talking to Falcons

Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones told the media after today’s practice that his agent Jimmy Sexton is in fact in town negotiating with the team about a contract extension. Zach Klein at WSB-TV first reported Sexton would be in Atlanta working on a deal this week. Jones did not offer any new details, though.

Atlanta fans have been eagerly waiting for news of an extension for Jones ever since Grady Jarrett and Deion Jones signed their own deals in the middle of July.

Perhaps they’ve been spoiled by a front office that has done a masterful job of managing the salary cap. General manager Thomas Dimitroff is at least as good as Howie Roseman and Bill Belichick in this area, and might well be the best in the business.

A new deal may or may not be reached with Jones this week or the next, but it is inevitable. When he signs, he’s expected to outpace Michael Thomas’ five-year, $96.25 million year deal with the Saints and become the highest paid wide receiver in the NFL.
