Julio Cesar Chavez Jr willing to fight for free if he loses to Jake Paul

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr has said he would fight for free if Jake Paul manages to beat him in just his sixth professional fight.

Chavez Jr is the former world middleweight champion, but has struggled in recent years and famously lost to 46-year-old MMA fighter Anderson Silva over the summer.

And he has said that he would forego payment if he loses a potential match-up with YouTube star Paul, who has called for the bout against 60-fight veteran Chavez Jr.

Paul is 5-0 as a professional, and is said to have told his management team to make an offer to Chavez Jr for his next outing, despite never having faced a boxer with a winning record before.

And Chavez Jr has said that he would retire from the sport should he lose that fight, as well as giving up his substantial final career payday.

“I hope I can get a few million with Jake Paul," he told TV Boxeo. "If he beats me, I’ll retire, I don’t get paid.

"I don’t want money if I don’t beat him... Retirement – not interested in his money if I do not win.

"[The Paul brothers] generate a lot of expectations and money, so a match with me would be good. They haven’t learned how to fight well and I can take advantage of that.

"Jake Paul can punch, but he’s not a boxer."

Chavez Jr had earlier claimed that Paul made him a massive fight offer, which he said was not enough for a fight of the magnitude.

He has a less-than-stellar record in recent years, despite not losing for his first 49 professional fights over his initial nine years of fighting.

The Mexican, whose father is the legendary former pound-for-pound number one Julio Cesar Chavez, was beaten by Canelo Alvarez in 2017, and has since gone 3-3 including a controversial performance against Daniel Jacobs and his infamous loss to Silva.

But despite being a considerably less relevant fighter by modern standards, Chavez Jr has demanded a 50/50 split with Paul for the fight to happen.

"Jake Paul and his people contacted me regarding a fight with Paul," he told Fight News last week.

"I said yes, but then again Lupe Valencia, who is with Paul now and used to be with me a few years back said they offered me one to three million dollars plus PPV.

"When it’s a fight that can sell millions and can break records because he is popular and I have a name, I’m a former world champion, so I made it clear that it has to be a 50/50 split for me to take the fight.

“Take into consideration that I have to go all the way up to 190 pounds, Jake Paul is a big guy and weight matters, so it’s a risk.

"Their people may want to see me lose and take advantages, but he doesn’t know how to box, I know I can knock him out."

Chavez Jr isn't the only boxer with a famous family name that has expressed an interest in fighting the YouTuber, with Tommy Fury also in the running for the big money bout.
